On April 1, 2022, two sets of amendments (sometimes referred to as \u201ccookie restrictions\u201d) to the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (the \u201cAct\u201d) went into effect, giving rise to questions of how to deal with cookies. For example, \u201cWhen I open a website,\u201d someone would ask, \u201cI often see a pop-up message appearing on the screen and asking me whether to accept cookies. Should my firm also introduce similar pop-ups on its website in the wake of these amendments?\u201dFor most business operators the answer to such questions is no \u2013 they are not required to take such steps as far as the Act is concerned.
